Diagnosis includes blood tests for parasite, antibody blood tests, X-ray, CAT Scan, MRI Scan and E. Multicularis Antibody tests.

Symptoms of the Alveolar Hydatid Disease include chest pain and discomfort, weight loss, coughing and jaundice. It may also manifest epilepsy and blindness including allergic rashes, anaphylaxis and fever if the brain is infested.

Treatment includes hospitalization, medications, surgical removal of the cyst, taking of mebendazole and Albendazole.
