Arachnodactyly Causes


3 common causes: 1. Marfan's Syndrome - is a connective tissue disorder which affects the cardiovascular, skeletal system,skin and eyes. 2. Homocystinuria - a hereditary ailment that is caused by enzyme deficiency. 3. Spondylocostal dysostosis - is an uncommon condition distinguished with a short build because of a short trunk and several morphological deformities of the ribs and vertebrea because of axial skeleton malsegmentation.


Arachnodactyly Definition


This disease is also known as "spider fingers" or archromachia. It is referred to as "spider fingers" due to the fact that the fingers are slim and long comparing it to the palm like a spider's legs. This disease can occur after birth or later in life. This disease can happen without any medical conditions but sometimes it is related with some medical condition for instance Marfan Syndrome. Other term for this disease is Dolichostenomelia.


Arachnodactyly Prevention


There is no known cure for this disease at the moment. People who are affected by this disease choose not to have children because their children might acquire the disease. But still if you want to have children even if you have the disease better consult a medical geneticist or genetic counselor that can give you helpful advices on how to go about it. If you think that your child had acquired the disease better consult a physician immediately, early detection can help your child live a productive and active life.

It affects men and women and happens among all races and ethnic groups. Because it is hereditary it is most likely that their offspring will acquire it too.
