Cholesteryl ester storage disease

Cholesteryl ester storage disease Definition

Cholesteryl ester storage disease is a rare medical condition resulting from the accumulation of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides in the blood, lymph and lymphoid tissue. It is a kind of acid lipase deficiency, similar to the Wolman disease. Children affected with this disorder have an enlarged liver which leads to cirrhosis and eventual chronic liver failure. They may as well have calcium deposits in their adrenal glands which may create jaundice. There is no current cure for the cholesteryl ester storage disease.
