Churg-Strauss Syndrome Definition
Churg-Strauss syndrome is among the several types of vasculitis, wherein there's an abnormal over-activation of an asthmatic person's immune system. The syndrome occurs in people having an allergy or asthma history. There is a swelling of the blood vessels in one's lungs, abdomen, nerves, and skin.
Churg-Strauss Syndrome Diagnosis
Churg-Strauss syndrome is diagnosed through symptoms occurring in patients that have asthma history. Other ways used for diagnosis include physical examination, blood examination, chest X-ray, and biopsy of tissue involved.
Churg-Strauss Syndrome Symptoms and Signs
Common symptoms of the syndrome include fever, inflammation of nasal passage or sinus in asthmatic patient, and weight loss. Fatigue is also common, and sometimes chest pain, breath shortness, and cough as one's lungs become affected. Nodules can also appear on extremities. Belly pain and diarrhea can be experienced with abdomen inflammation.
Churg-Strauss Syndrome Treatment
Treatment generally includes high dosage of some cortisine-related drugs like prednisolone, which calms the inflammation. Cyclophosphamide is also you used to suppress the overly active immune system.
