Couvade Syndrome Definition
Couvade syndrome is also known as sympathetic pregnancy, pregnant dad syndrome, and male pregnancy experience is a condition wherein the expectant father is experiencing some of the physical pregnancy symptoms prior the birth of the baby. The condition is usually common in first-time fathers; however there are also cases involving fathers who had previous children.

Couvade syndrome is a little-understood syndrome and because the symptoms are only mild, expectant fathers do not necessarily go to consult a doctor.
Couvade Syndrome Symptoms and Signs
The condition is most prominent during the end of the first trimester of the wife's pregnancy and during the last remaining days before the child is born characterized by the following symptoms: food cravings, weight gain, nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps, abdominal discomforts, disturbed sleeping patterns, loss of appetite, itchy skin, headache, toothache, and other pain conditions common during pregnancy.
Couvade Syndrome Treatment
There is no typical treatment for the condition because couvade syndrome is not usually indicated in medical books. The only known cure for couvades syndrome is birth of the baby because the symptoms disappear as soon as the baby is born. Relieving the effects of the symptoms is often managed in typical approaches like rest and eating crackers when experiencing nausea and vomiting.
