There are three different types of cutaneous lupus erythematosus: chronic lupus erythematosus, subacute lupus erythematosus and e types of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Dark skinned women individuals are more prone to Cutaneous lupus erythematosus especially between ages 20-60.

For milder rash formations, a weaker formulation of the cream is often prescribed. Other treatments also include thalidomide, cyclosporin, acitretin, methotrexate, intravenous immunoglobulin, gold, clofazamine, cyclophosphamide and dapsone. Oral steroids can also be used in severe cases.
