The underlying cause of Duodenal Atresia is still la rgely unknown. However, medical experts believe that this medical condiotion is mainly attributed to genetic mutations that may be autosomal recessive in form.
Duodenal Atresia Definition
is the congenital deficiency or complete closure of a part of the lumen of the duodenum.
Duodenal Atresia Diagnosis
The diagnosis of duodenal atresia is usually confirmed through conducting a radiography. An X-ray of the abdomen of the patient often shows two large air filled spaces, which is more commonly referred to as the so-called "double bubble" sign. The air appears to be cornered in the duodenum and the stomach. Since the approach of the duodenum is downright in duodenal atresia, no air is seen distal to the duodenum.
Duodenal Atresia Treatment
To date, there are known si condition, treatment available for this condition. A surgery may be conducted but would often require extensive studies to decrease the risks of complications. Supportive medical therapies for patients and genetic counseling may also be needed to help the patient as well as the family to be better informed and cope with the ailment.
