Esophagitis Definition
Esophagitis simply refers to the swelling or inflammation of the esophagus. It is usually caused by other illnesses such as gastroesophageal reflux syndrome (GERD), and infections due to certain viruses and bacteria. Food allergies can also result to esophagitis. The swelling of the esophagus can be treated by NSAID medications.
