Fan death is also thought to be caused by air conditioners and fans in cars, which is why some Koreans leave their car windows open a crack to avoid this unpleasant death, though not often enough, as evidenced by the surge in deaths caused by fans.

Fan death is a South Korean urban legend which states that an electric fan, if left running overnight in a closed room, can result in the death (by suffocation when oxygen is "stolen" from the victims, poisoning, or hypothermia) of those inside.
