If the reaction is severe already, non-steroidal inflammatory medications and antihistamines can be taken. For bacterial conjunctivitis, an antibiotic eye drops or ointment can be used as well. It doesn't affect the severity of the symptom but it can reduce the healing process from 4.8 days to 3.3 days. There is no cure of viral conjunctivitis; cool compress and artificial tear can give symptomatic relief. Topical corticosteroid drops can be used to reduce inflammation discomfort.
