Gingivostomatitis is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus 1. The disease is a combination of stomatitis and gingivitis.

No special tests are needed to diagnose gingivostomatitis. Biopsy however, is sometimes performed to rule out other mouth ulcers.

Among the symptoms of the disease are the development of sores in the cheeks and gums, general discomfort, fever, loss of appetite and bad breath.
Gingivostomatitis Treatment
The disease is treated by reducing the symptoms. Children are advised to practice oral hygiene. Medicated mouthwashes are also recommended. Hydrogen peroxide can also relieve one of the pain brought about by the sores.
