Gustatory Sweating

Gustatory Sweating Definition

Gustatory sweating refers to the extreme sweating on the forehead, scalp, face and neck that occurs after ingesting food. It is usually normal to sweat after eating spicy food; however, gustatory sweating is caused by a damaged nerve. It can be a symptom of Frey's syndrome or diabetes mellitus. This condition is difficult to treat, as special procedures involving oxybutynin chloride, and clonidine are used to lessen the effects brought about by the damaged nerve.
