Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is a common pre-diabetic state in which insulin resistance may cause cardiovascular problems. It can be the start of the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This condition can be treated by changes in diet and lifestyle to prevent the development of diabetes. Sugar intake must be limited and regular exercise must be practiced. Minerals such as carnitine are also helpful in regulating blood sugar levels.
