Keratosis Causes


Keratosis, depending on the type, is caused by different reasons. Actinic keratosis is caused by too much exposure from the sun; Seborrheic keratosis meanwhile is benign and is caused by a defect in the growth factor receptor. Keratosis pilaris is a result of the accumulation of keratin within the hair follicles.


Keratosis Definition


Keratosis is the abnormal growth of keratin on the skin. It has three types, keratosis pilaris, actinic keratosis and seborrheic keratosis.

Keratosis can be diagnosed by physical examination and skin biopsy.


Keratosis Symptoms and Signs


The symptoms of keratosis are usually of pigmented growths on the skin. These growths are of shades that are contrast to one's normal skin color. These growths can be the onset of skin cancer.
