Mondini dysplasia Definition
Sometimes known as Mondini malformation, Mondini dysplasia is an abnormality in the inner ear that may cause hearing loss. It is said that a person with the disorder had an incomplete cochlea, meaning, it has two, one and one half, one or no turns at all in the cochlea. Normal cochleas have two and a half turns.
Mondini dysplasia Diagnosis
Mondini's dysplasia may be explained through pathologic findings in the inner or middle ears, including the dysgenesis of the end organs and associated neural elements, which are sufficient to cause a sensorineural hearing loss.
Mondini dysplasia Symptoms and Signs
Mondini dysplasia may first manifest during childhood or early adult life.
