At present the direct cause of the Morphea is still unknown though it may be linked to the reaction and activity of the immune system.


Morphea Definition


Morphea, a localized form of scleroderma, is a condition whereby there is the occurrence of the reddish or the purplish patching on the skin which usually occurs in the person's arms, torso and legs.

Confirmation of the condition may be made through physical examination and tissue sample for biopsy.

Symptoms includes hardening, unusual discoloration and thickening of the affected skin.

There is no known treatment for Morphea but there are treatments that focus more on the symptoms as they manifest these includes administration of corticosteroid, antimalarial drugs, physical therapy, immunosuppresive medications, laser treatments and even plastic surgery.
