A muscle strain is caused by too much stretching or when a muscle is pull too far and in abrupt manner.

Muscle Strain or commonly known as ?pulled? muscles is a condition whereby there is a stretching or tearing of the muscles in contrast with the muscle sprain which is the stretching or tearing of the ligaments.

Diagnosis is made through physical examination which will often reveal a swollen or even bleeding part of the joint or muscle. An X-ray and MRI may also be used to confirm the injury and its extent.

Symptoms of muscle strain are pain, swelling, bruising and stiffness of the muscle.


Muscle Strain Treatment


Treatment of muscle sprain will depend on the extent of the injury. For moderate injuries, an over the counter medications like ibuprofen and an ice pack are enough to minimize the swelling and pain. However, for severe injuries, a braise or splint is needed in order to immobilize the area affected. A surgery may be considered in extreme cases.
