Nail Fungus Causes


It is cause by the fungi referred to as the dermatophytes. It is also said to be caused by yeasts and molds that usually thrive in dark, moist area of the shoes.


Nail Fungus Definition


Nail fungus results from a fungi infection of the nails which spreads into the nail and causes discoloration and thickening of the nails. Nail Fungal Infection is also called Onychomycosis.

Diagnosis in order to confirm the medical condition includes examination of the nails and then taking some debris from the nail and examining it under a microscope to determine the kind of fungi that causes the condition on the nails which will in turn help in finding the suitable treatment.

Symptoms of Nail fungus includes discoloration of the nails which usually ranges from being a yellowish to dark in color, thickening and brittling of the nails, deformation of the nails, absence of shine in the nail, foul odor of the foot and the presence of onycholysis or the separation of the nail from the nailbed.

Treatment of Nail fungus includes administration of over the counter fungal creams and ointments for the nails and administration of oral medications such as the Itraconazole, Fluoconazole and Terbinafine.
