Neurofibroma is a type of nerve sheath tumor. Nerve sheath tumors are nervous system tumors which are mostly consist of myelin surrounding nerves. Essentially, Neurofibroma is a benign tumor originating from nerve cells. It usually arises from nerves in the skin or under the skin.
Neurofibroma Symptoms and Signs
Individuals with Neurofibroma manifest the following symptoms: * Painless slow growing mass * Presence of lump in the skin * Electric shock-like sensation when touching affected area * On rare cases, pain in the location of the tumor
Neurofibroma Treatment
The most recommended treatment for Neurofibroma is surgical resection of the tumor; however complete removal is not attained for tumors located in delicate positions like the optic nerve. In cases like this, debulking or incomplete excision is proven to be helpful followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
