Paraphilias is a medical condition that is characterized by uncontrollable impulses relating to sexual urges, fantasies and behaviors that usually involves highly unusual practices, situations and objects. This disorder can greatly impair the normal and sexual functioning of the person. Patients with paraphilias are often referred to by society as perverts because of behaviors that can possibly have serious legal and social consequences.
Paraphilias Symptoms and Signs
Paraphilias are typically referred to as sexual perversions or deviations. Symptoms include sexual urges involving objects, unusual sexual practices and behaviors. This may involve inflicting pain and humiliation to another person or involving under-aged and as well as non-consenting adults. Common forms of paraphilias include fetishism, voyeurism, exhibitionism, pedophilia, frotteurism, sadism, masochism and transvestitism.
Paraphilias Treatment
Primary forms of treatment for this medical condition include counseling and therapy to help patients modify their behavior. There are also certain medications prescribed to reduce a person's sexual drive, hence, reducing frequent occurrences.
