Syphilis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae are some bacterial organisms causing Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. It can be also that the disease is the body's reaction some vaccinations.

Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria is also termed as Donath-Landsteiner syndrome. This is a disease usually affecting humans and is characterized by abrupt presence of the hemoglobinuria in urine especially after being exposed to very cold temperatures.

Diagnosis can be done through urine analysis in the laboratory to check for presence of hemoglobin in the urine sample taken from the patient. Differential diagnosis is then done to know the organism causing the illness.
