Pentosuria Causes


Pentosuria is believed to be caused by the patients deficiency in L-xylulose reductase which is responsible for reducing sugar level in the urine.


Pentosuria Definition


Pentosuria is a condition where xylulose which is a pentose is found in the urine at abnormally high concentrations. The condition is often associated to the deficiency of L-xylulose reductase, which is a reducing sugar. Thus it usually give false diagnosis and lead to misdiagnosis of the condition as diabetes.


Pentosuria Diagnosis


Pentosuria can be accurately diagnosed be taking urine samples and doing a urine analysis of the sample to determine the levels of pentose. Differential diagnosis is also done to distinguish it from diabetes.


Pentosuria Symptoms and Signs


There is not a direct symptom identified to be associated with Pentosuria. Although, it may demonstrate symptoms simillar to that of diabetes.
