Pheochromocytoma Definition
Pheochromocytoma is a neuroendocrine tumor which occur in the medulla found in the adrenal glands. These originated in the chromaffin cells or from the extra-adrenal chromaffin tissues that failed to curl or curve forward after birth.
Pheochromocytoma Diagnosis
A diagnostic test used by physicians in the pastis to administer clonidine. Pressing gently on the adrenal gland can also be a way to diagnose such disorder however not often advisable. A differential diagnosis of pheochromocytoma is also done to distinguish it from other sickness with the same symptoms like anxiety disorders, paragangliomas, essential hypertension, hyperthyroidism, insulinoma, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, and renovascular hypertension.
Pheochromocytoma Symptoms and Signs
Symptoms the disorder pheochromocytoma usually affect those of the sympathetic nervous system making it hyperactive. These may include elevation of the heart rate, high pressure of the blood, orthostatic hypotension, palpitations, anxiety, diaphoresi, headaches, pallor, abrupt lost of weight, and high levels of glucose in the blood.
Pheochromocytoma Treatment
Treatments for pheochromocytoma may include surgical interventions in resectioning of the tumor. It can be done either by open laparotomy or just laparoscopy. Drug medications and salt are also advised to be taken by patients before any surgery should take place.
