Piles Causes
The cause of piles is the increased pressure in the veins in the rectum on account of irregular bowel movement (constipation and diarrhea), pregnancy and childbirth, and obesity, among others.
Piles Definition
Piles, which are more commonly known as hemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in the anus and rectum, which may be caused by increased pressure on the said veins during a bowel movement or during pregnancy.
Piles Diagnosis
The existence of piles may be determined by physical observation and rectal examination. A more definitive diagnosis may be obtained through examination with the use of an anoscope, sigmoidoscope or colonoscope.
Piles Symptoms and Signs
Usually, piles, especially those which are internal, exhibit no symptoms. However, there may be severe pain, discomfort, bleeding, swelling and inflammation, and itchiness, in external hemorrhoid.
Piles Treatment
The treatment for piles include over-the-counter medications such as topical ointments or creams, surgery, schlerotherapy, stapling, and rubber band ligation.
