Pompholyx Definition
Pompholyx, otherwise known as dyshidrosis and dyshidrotic eczema, is a skin condition in which small, vesicles or fluid-filled blisters occur on the palms, or the soles, or both.
Pompholyx Diagnosis
A diagnosis may be reached through physical examination. In some cases, a skin biopsy or KOH test is done to confirm a diagnosis.
Pompholyx Symptoms and Signs
Pompholyx is manifested by small bumps that gradually become a rash made up of vesicles. The other symptoms of this condition are itching, pain, and fissures on the fingers or toes.
Pompholyx Treatment
The treatment options for pompholyx include: high-potency corticosteroid creams, like clobetasol propionate; wet or cold compresses, which may help alleviate itching and minimize blisters; anti-itching medications called antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine or loratadine; and psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA).
