Prolactinoma is a condition in which a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland in the brain overproduces the hormone prolactin. A decrease in normal levels of sex hormones (testosterone in men,estrogen in women) is a major effect of increased prolactin.
Prolactinoma Diagnosis
Blood tests can detect the overproduction of prolactin as a result of a pituitary tumor. Other test may include: brain imaging using CT or MRI scans, and vision tests.

In females: irregular or lack of menstrual periods, milky discharge from the breasts when not pregnant or breast-feeding, painful intercourse due to vaginal dryness, low bone density. In both: reduced hormone production by the pituitary gland as a result of tumor pressure, loss of interest in sexual activity, headaches, visual disturbances, infertility.
