Shwartzman Phenomenon Definition
Shwartzman phenomenon is a body reaction, either localized or systemic to particular toxins resulting in the formation of a blood clot that can cause death to the affected tissue. The symptom may vary depending on the part of the body exposed to the endotoxin. This condition usually occurs during delivery or abortion oftentimes because foreign bodies are introduced into the tissues located in the female reproductive system. The phenomenon is usually marked by tissue necrosis, bleeding and ulceration.
